If you’ve been looking for a job for an extended period of time, it can really wear on you. In order to find a position that is rewarding, you must stay in a healthy mindset. Here are a few ways that you can overcome the frustrations of the search, and find yourself the perfect job:
Celebrate
Instead of getting upset with every time you get rejected, or frustrated that you’re wasting time sending in applications and interviewing, celebrate it all. Remember, it’s just a numbers game. Every no you get will get you closer to that yes. Every job you turn down, will get you closer to the job offer you really want. Be grateful because every result gets you further, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Create a Cheat Sheet
If you’re going on a lot of interviews, it helps to have a quick list of your accomplishments, strengths, passions. Also include the main questions you want to ask at every interview. You’ll save a huge amount of time by creating this cheat sheet just once, and then reviewing it the morning of your interview. You’ll be prepared quickly and easily every time.
Make it Fun
Get creative and think about how you can make every job-seeking task an experience that you look forward to. Add some personality to your cover letters, ask for informational interviews at your favorite restaurant, or watch a Ted talk or Blue Collar Millionaires episode for inspiration. It doesn’t have to be a painful process!
Get Organized
Plan out your job search tasks and activities ahead of time. Create a schedule and stick to it. Make sure you get regular exercise. Being organized with your time will make you feel in control, and strategizing your actions will lead to finding that job much more quickly.
Don’t Overdo It
Searching for a job might be your full-time gig right now, but don’t put in any overtime. You need to be at your mental best for interviews, and you need time in between to process. Some of your best ideas will come to you during your off time, so giving yourself a break will actually get you further ahead in the search.
