A higher percentage of the younger generation is choosing to go to college for white collar work. We also currently have a building boom along with many older craftsmen retiring! This means we’ve got a significant labor gap on our hands, and so the demand for work in the trades is high – and projected to keep growing for the next several years.
With fewer and fewer young people going into the industry, the demand is pushing the average pay up. A 2017 study from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce said that the median salary for a job in the trades is $59,000 annually, which is pretty competitive with white collar work.
More Flexibility and Variety
Because the demand for craftsmen is high, you can choose the projects you want, as well as whether you have temporary or permanent placement, short-term or long-term, and more.
Many of the craftsmen that Madden work with don’t want permanent placement. For example, some people misunderstand and think they’d only want temporary projects as a short-term solution to unemployment. But the reality is that temporary work gives craftsmen variety, control in their vacation schedules, and rapid advancement of skills.
