The warm weather is finally here! And what better way to celebrate than revamping your backyard for those enjoyable parties, cookouts, and get-togethers. Let’s take a look at a few steps you can take to transform your backyard into a summer paradise.

Renovate your deck.

Looking for a summer project to keep you busy on the weekends? There’s a good chance your deck could use some attention. Wooden patios exposed to the elements throughout the harsh winter months can suffer significant damage. Boards become warped, pain peels off, and supports loosen. Taking a few weeks to prep your deck for the summer months can make sure all those backyard gatherings go off without a hitch. You can replace warped boards, repaint peeling areas, and reposition loosened supports.

Invest in some outdoor furniture.

In the summertime, you exchange your man cave for the backyard. But that doesn’t mean it should be any less comfortable. After a long day of busting your tail on the job site, you deserve to kickback and relax. It’s time to replace those lawn chairs with some real outdoor furniture. Make sure to invest in pieces with a weather-proof design to withstand the harsh PNW weather. Spending a few extra bucks can make sure the furniture lasts years longer. Don’t forget to get an umbrella while you’re at it.

Clean off the grill.

There’s nothing better than hanging out in the backyard with friends and family on a warm summer night with the grill ablaze. Before you can break out your favorite barbecue recipe and start cooking juicy slabs of meat, you’ll need to get your grill in tip-top shape. Start off by scrubbing any grease or foodstuffs off the cooking plate. Next, check to make sure all connections are sturdy and firm. If you’re using a gas grill, check the hoses and make sure the propane tank is full.

Let there be light.

The sun sets a bit later during the summer, but you want the ability to enjoy your backyard well into the night. That’s where outdoor lighting comes into play. A powerful flood light attached to your house can work wonders for optimizing visibility. Looking for something a little more ambient? You can string up lights or go for classic tiki torches. If you want to illuminate your whole yard, smart motion-sensing lights are an excellent choice. Some patio lights even come with bug-repelling capabilities.

Make it more private.

No matter how much you enjoy your neighbors, you don’t always want them peering into your backyard when you’re trying to relax and unwind. Installing a fence is a surefire way to increase your backyard’s privacy while creating a safer area for your kids. If a fence isn’t an option, get creative with small partitions on your deck. This way, you maintain the openness of your yard while still having some separation between you and the neighbors.

Get an outdoor cooler.

After spending the whole week eating and staying healthy on the job site, you’ve earned a little splurge. What’s better than enjoying a nice, cold drink in your backyard on a warm summer evening? Having that drink within arm’s reach! With an outdoor cooler, you don’t have to make trips inside every time your or your guests need a drink. Make sure to get a cooler that’s specifically designed for outdoor use. These models are typically more durable and can keep refreshments cooler for longer periods of time even in the summer heat.
